LYFT Notes – Rider 4000

I went over the 4000 ride mark on New Years Eve. It was an exciting achievement for me. I tell folks that I cannot make their day easy, but by providing rideshare services I can try to make their day easier. That’s my “motto” each day as I try to provide some level of ministry to each rider depending on the circumstances. With some it is just a word of testimony, the offer of prayer. With others it’s a discussion of life from a biblical perspective. Sometimes we talk about the Gospel. With some it’s a time of fellowship as we share our love for Christ.

For each increment of 1000 it has been my practice to recognize the milestone by giving that rider 10.00 for the 1000th, 20.00 for the 2000th, 30.00 for the 3000th and taking their picture to post on facebook.

The 4000th rider presented a problem for me, however. He was a young man who reeked of marijuana and was so high that he didn’t even know he wasn’t in a taxicab and wasn’t sure where he wanted to go … he changed his destination three times during the ride. In good conscience, I could not give him the 40.00. Rider #4001 was drunk at 4pm in the afternoon … boasting that he had been celebrating all day already and was looking forward to more. In good conscience, I could not give him the 40.00. Rider 4002 was a woman who reminded me of a sailor I once knew who had a very limited vocabulary, evidenced by the fact that every third noun, adjective, verb, adverb, or exclamation he used was a variation of the same word beginning with the letter “F”. She ranted for the ten minute ride on the government, Christmas, Walmart, the weather and her “ex”. I decided to keep my 40.00 and pay myself for having had to listen to that trash.

Now … on to rider #5000 😉
