Snowstorm Observations of a LYFT Driver
December 30, 2020
1 – Shoeless in the Snow —
Carrying two heavy plastic trash bags, she stepped gingerly from her door and walked, in her glittery golden slippers, down the neatly shoveled sidewalk to the curb. Faced by the 24 inch mound of snow thrown up by the snow plow she extended her arms, dangling a plastic bag from each hand, to maintain her balance as she began to step over the mound. I watched with a suppressed smirk as the golden slipper with no back fell from her foot. My smirk, however, broke free from suppression when she began hopping on one foot as she valiantly fought to sheath the naked foot again in the shoe that lay atop the pile of snow. That being accomplished, she leaned forward to take a step and now plunged foot and shoe and her leg halfway up her calf into the snow mound. Quickly withdrawing, she extracted a naked foot once more … the shoe remaining buried. She discarded the bags and began hopping again, trying to position herself so that she might reach into the hole and extract her shoe. In the process she lost the other shoe and now had two naked feet and a look of dismay as her second shoe slid down the sidewalk and stopped about 8 feet away. At that point my rider arrived and I drove past the forlorn looking woman standing with two naked feet between two plastic garbage bags … one shoe buried in the snow … the other having taken a trip down the sidewalk.
2 – Saggy pants and Snow Shoveling —
I believe wearing saggy pants while standing in the street and shoveling out your car after a snowstorm should be a misdemeanor. I don’t want to see you bent over shoveling while you display your backside veiled (or unveiled) in your BVDs as I drive by … aren’t you COLD, dude? Furthermore, those that DO want to see such a display are tying up traffic while they gawk … you are a HAZARD!
3 – Blowing and Shoveling —
In general, those moving snow with snow blowers today appeared significantly happier than those doing it with shovels. None of them, however, appeared to be happier than I was at 5 AM as, from the warmth of my living room, I watched College Lawn Service plow my driveway and shovel my sidewalks!
