The Owl, The Pussycat & The Bible
April 14, 2014
It was my task to sort through the contents of my mother’s wallet today, looking for anything that needed attention as we begin to tie up any loose ends in the aftermath of her home-going last week. It was interesting to find, tucked away in the wallet, two scraps of paper that were filled with my mom’s cursive writing. The writing was in very clear and legible script which tells me that these scraps of paper are likely 5 years old or more. Finding the two of them, together, made me smile.
Scrap #1 The Owl and the Pussy Cat went to Sea In a beautiful Pea green boat. They took some money and plenty of honey Wrapped up in a fine pound note. The owl looked up to the stars above and sang to a small guitar. O Lovely Pussy, O Pussy my Love What a beautiful Pussy you are, you are. What a beautful Pussy you are, you are. Scrap #2 Psalm 139 – When God seems far away Isaiah 40; Psalm 34 – When Discouraged Hebrews 11 – When Faith Fails Psalm 23 – When feeling alone Matthew 6.19-34 – When worried Psalm 51 – When needing forgiveness John 15 – When life seems empty Psalm 103 – When feeling cheated Psalm 27 – When friends fail Matthew 5.9,22 – When angry Psalms, Proverbs, John, James, Matthew, 1 John, Ephesians (My favorite books)I’m not surprised by Scrap #2. I suspect that many of my readers have similar scraps of paper in their purse, wallet or Bible. I’m fairly confident that none of you are carrying around your hand written copy of “The Owl and the Pussycat.” 🙂
