No More Zipper Phobia
May 16, 2019
In the relatively short time that I have been sewing again, I have almost always skipped any thought of making anything with a zipper in it. I looked at the zipper foot on for my machine (an adjustable one) and it just looked too complicated to mess with.
In our last vendor show there was a crafter who told me that my fears were unfounded and she showed me some things that she guaranteed I would love making … with zippers. I was skeptical … she was totally uninformed regarding the influence of Jeske’s Law … but that was understandable.
Her challenge was not easily discarded, however, and when I looked at the stacks of smaller pieces of fabric that have accumulated over the last 18 months I realized that her suggestion was one that would use them profitably … if I could conquer the zipper.
Here is what resulted from my first effort:
I’ll be making more of these with some variation in sizes. I even want to make some to match the bag/purses (this one does) and sell them as an ensemble.
So now, every time my inner self says to me, “You can’t do zippers”, my response is to say, “ZIP IT!”
