Ready for the Loony Bin … or for My Girlfriend to Return
May 17, 2018
This is embarrassing. Jumped out of bed this morning at 5:45 (well, I didn’t really “jump”) after snuggling with Noelle. She was pressed against my head while she spent some time grooming herself while purring the whole time. I could hear the “click-click” of her toe nails as she cleaned her feet. (NOTE: Noelle is our kitty .. not my wife). I threw on yesterday’s clothes (well, I didn’t really “throw” them on) and headed for the yard and set up the sprinkler to water the garden. Then I returned to the house and after fixing breakfast for the meowing Noelle I hopped into the shower (well, I didn’t really “hop”). Dressing for the day I donned an MCE button down the front shirt (I really did don it), noting that it now fits across my belly and chest without puckering (Thank You Yoli!). I pulled on my beige slacks (yes, I did pull them on) and noted with some satisfaction that the 44 waist is getting really loose … going to have to consign these to the pile of “Yoli Kills” soon. I made a double shot of Yoli Passion, ate a yellow bell pepper and a banana and shared a sausage stick with Noelle.
After turning off the sprinkler, I went quickly through the house, picking up and putting away things in preparation for “The Return of the Girlfriend”. She arrives later today after being away since Sunday. I thought about making the bed but then decided it was a waste of time and energy since I was just going to use it again tonight. When the house was in fairly decent order I sat down to review my notes for my presentation today at the Emmaus International board meeting and I reviewed the agenda. I missed the first clue. I checked in electronically with my colleague Henry at MCE and then took my computer and the apron I made for Tracey Rush, kissed Noelle goodbye and headed for Emmaus with a pocket full of Passion and Truth and my drink bottle.
I enjoyed chatting with John as I delivered the apron. When I mentioned that I was headed upstairs for the Emmaus International Board Meeting he looked a little quizzical and asked if we were meeting before the college meetings as he referred to his calendar and mentioned that they were meeting next week. My response was “I don’t know if it’s before or after, I just come when they tell me”. That was the second missed clue.
Heading upstairs to the Board Room I was mildly surprised to be greeted by Lisa Beatty as she cheerfully asked if I was there for a meeting. “Yes”, I said, “Emmaus International Board Meeting”. She looked momentarily confused … as Joel Hernandez walked up behind me and suggested that I was early for that meeting …. it being scheduled for NEXT WEEK!!! … AND ON TUESDAY!!!
I wondered what I was doing there! So I stuck my tail between my legs and headed back to the recently straightened-up house. Checking my calendar I saw that indeed the EI meeting IS next Tuesday. Further checking the email in which the agenda arrived it said the meeting is May 22. I didn’t check my brain because it is apparently “checked out” today.
Am I ready for the Loony Bin … or do I just need Linda to return to me? You tell me!
