Food for the Soul

Food for My Soul 2/27

Slightly more than 50 years ago, my friend John Lucas and I started singing together at the home of a mutual friend. It was an impromptu sing-along but it began a friendship that resulted in us starting “The Vessels”, a gospel singing group (John, me, Linda, Joel, Jim and Harry) that sang in churches and coffee houses around Pennsylvania (do they even have coffee houses any more?) I was reminded of that by today’s reading from the Psalms. The verse I have selected comes from Psalm 34 1-4. Verse 1 was the basis for a song I wrote called HIS PRAISE (Lyrics below).

I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.
I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Ps. 34.1-4

I wrote this song over 50 years ago and we sang it regularly. As I read this morning, snippets of it began playing in my head. Time had erased some of the text from my mind … So I called John, in a hospital bed in Pennsylvania, and between us we reconstructed the song. The lyrics are shared below and I hope it will be an encouragement to you!

By the way, please pray for John and his wife Diane. John is battling cancer and some other serious issues, and has been for a number of years. I love him and while we once fellowshipped in the singing ministry … now we are fellowshipping in medical struggles.

HIS PRAISE
Come tomorrow morning sunshine,
I’ll sing praises to my Lord.
For another day to serve Him,
And the joy that it affords.
Chorus
I will praise the Lord, praise His holy name!
And His praise shall be in my mouth,
From this day forth, eternally.
Come the midday with its trials
I will praise him for His strength.
Praise Him for the love He shows to me,
And the way He gives me peace.
Chorus
Come the evening when the sun fades,
I will long see His face.
Praise Him for the coming glory,
And the many years of grace.
Chorus
Come the darkest hour of night,
I will praise Him for the Light.
Come the final morning sunshine,
I will praise Him for the sight.
Chorus

Beautiful. Send the music. It would be a blessing to hear the whole song.
