Did you know that at the start of WW I, under direction of President Wilson and his wife, sheep were brought to graze in the White House lawns in order to save the manpower required to mow the expansive grounds. Wool from the sheep was sold as a fundraiser for the Red Cross, netting 52,000.00 (a bit more than 1.6 million in today’s dollars).
