Slice of Life

My First “48 Hours”

There is a television program called “48 Hours” and, although I’ve never watched the program, it came to mind as I marked the passing of my last 48 hours.

I had my first infusion treatment on Tuesday and was given a formidable list of possible side effects which usually occur during the first 48 hours after the procedure. I was also cautioned that the strength of such side effects can grow with each successive infusion. It is so wonderful to have something to look forward to! 😉 THE BEST THING ABOUT THESE PROCEDURES AND ABOUT HOSPITALS IN GENERAL IS that they freely offer you a warm blanket from what seems to be a vast and endless supply. I told the nurse on Tuesday that I will never turn down a warm blanket. I noticed that the blanket warmer was set to a temperature of 130 degrees. I wonder if I could put some blankets in my oven and warm them at 120 or 125 and thereby have the same benefit at home!

The good news is that all but one of the ill-effects can be addressed with a variety of potions and drugs. The one that they cannot do anything for is fatigue.

I have passed the 48 hour mark and can report that the only effect I suffered was a mild achiness of body and a slight feeling of nausea which set in 8 hours after the treatment. I went to bed feeling that way and arose in the morning feeling fine … so I slept it off! Yay! Next treatment on March 12.

On another front: I’ve been able to drive rideshare on the last two days and it has been good to get behind the “ministry wheel” again. This morning, however, at 5:40 AM I had a rider who was about 10 miles away and there was a message from the rider: “Hi! You may have noticed that my pickup and drop off point are the same. I don’t really need to go anywhere but I need you to come and jump start my car; it has a dead battery.” – I graciously declined.
