The Waiting

Anyone remember Tom Petty?

The waiting is the hardest part
Every day get one more yard
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part
You know, waiting is the hardest part

After 4AM CT scan, that proved everything is stable, the rest of today, so far, has been getting one more inch at a time toward home. Every time a nurse or staffer comes in and asks if there is anything else they can do for me, I ask for a wheel chair out of here. So far, it hasn’t materialized. My nurse told me “You’ll be the first to know as soon as it comes through” I told her that if I was truly the first to know that I’d already have gotten out of it on the curb! At any rate, I know they are working on making appointments for various things in Dubuque over the next few weeks. I’m still on track for leaving here today …. sometime … and right now waiting is the hardest part.

Things heard over the last couple of days from nurses and staff

  • I really can’t recommend any of the food here
  • Things always move slowly in a hospital
  • I don’t know if I can fit you in the machine
  • Just don’t let the people from neurology catch you doing it
  • Is there anything more I can do for you
  • The nurse told me you were her favorite patient
  • You can’t do that!
  • I’m encouraged by your good sense of humor
  • You can’t wear those socks or you’ll slip on the floor
  • You did what?

Hoping to get out of here soon!
