The Morning After
February 13, 2024
It’s 7:19 in the morning and we are awake. That’s pretty amazing given that my girlfriend settled in her recliner (snatched from another room before anyone else could grab it by one of the nurses) around 11:00. I got my first food in 30 hours just before midnight. I ate my meal of macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and a monster cookie and went to bed, while gazing upon the face of my beautiful girlfriend who was still wearing her glasses as she slept.
She’s fixing breakfast which was just now delivered by “Room Service”.
One of the doctors has been in with this report: The MRI last night showed NOTHING different. There is a small (large pea size) brain bleed but it appears to be stable. There is no indication of cause, meaning that they can’t see any evidence of the cancer in my brain. That does not mean that it is not there but it’s not showing. We will do another scan in a couple of weeks to keep a check on it. It could be that this was an “incidental, spontaneous bleed in the brain as sometimes happens with people on blood thinner”. That was a quote from the doctor. Note the words “incidental” and “spontaneous”. They hardly seem to have any of the gravitas that is attached to this situation!
All of my vitals have been good … blood tests have been fine. The plan is to do another CT scan sometime today. If nothing changes they will send me home later today or tomorrow. I’ll see the oncologist on Friday as scheduled in Dubuque.
I’m feeling a little wobbly when I get up but that is likely due to having been in bed and without much food for an extended time.
Thanks for your prayers and for the overwhelming support of my FB family. Our journey is not over … “we’ve only just begun” 😉 and we are glad to have y’all walking it with us. So thankful to know where the journey will ultimately end … before the throne of grace … but only waiting to see when. Until then we journey on.

February 13, 2024 at 12:33 pmAbsolutely, Eileen. (Absolutely is a word I learned from the younger generation and they use it word to respond to most questions …. the other if you respond to one of their questions, the response is “perfect”. 🙂

February 14, 2024 at 7:12 amThanks Erica! We are somewhat relieved that things seem to be less dire than we thought at first but are realistic in our view that there is still a mountain to climb with the cancer. Appreciate your note and we love you all as well!
