An Easter Present for Noelle
April 7, 2012
We’ve been blessed here at the “ranch” with the help of two sons and a grandson as we caught up with the early spring season by taking care of some needed yard projects. I’ve read that the season is anywhere from 4-6 weeks ahead of schedule which means that we were 4-6 weeks behind on our work. Mulching, planting, trimming, seeding, plumbing and carpet removal were all on the agenda for the day. Still some work to do but we have made a huge step of progress today. The girls in this family gathering disappeared around 11:00 to go have their manicure/pedicures. Guess we’ll not be getting any more work out of them 🙂
On a trip to the hardware store, I was sorely tempted to bring home an Easter present for our cat, Noelle. There by the door of the store, for 6.50, they were selling live chicks!! Awesome! I stopped and considered what fun Noelle could have with such a toy! I thought of the fun we would have watching her have fun. 6.50 seems rather reasonable for lunch, after all. Then it occurred to me that there was a possibility that Noelle would be merciful and let the critter live. That would mean that it would grow, and then what do I do? Perhaps feed it long enough for it to be reasonable to eat it myself? We’re talking about more than 6.50 for a meal now.
In the end, I opted to pass. My reason had to do with the fact that Easter is all about life, new life. Buying this peeping chick was , ultimately, more about death than life. It just seemed inappropriate. It was the wrong message to send to Noelle J.
