Final Push
October 3, 2011
The process of human birth often concludes with what is referred to in the delivery room as “one more push”. In similar fashion, the birth of our drainage system will conclude tomorrow with “one more push”. This push, appropriately enough, will be made by my sweet wife with me by her side as we move remaining excess dirt, finish topping off the trenches with the remaining sand and topsoil.
I tested each branch this morning with water and was pleased to see all three of them had drainage from the far end to the curb. I had intended to do nothing with the project after that today, giving my body a greatly needed rest after three days of work. It was a good idea but the local internet service provider was spastic today and I was unable to do much office work. So I did some raking and general clean-up.
Noelle was so thrilled to be back in her territory again. She lay in the trenches, rolled around on the dirt piles and generally lolled in the sun as I worked.
My youngest son just sent me a text message indicating that his body was ‘worse’ today than it was yesterday. In a twisted sort of way … that encouraged me 🙂 Perhaps this “old man” isn’t as bad off as he thought!!! 🙂 We’ll see how I feel after the “final push”!
