The Adventure Begins In Earnest
September 30, 2011
The Sandman has been here and dropped 6 tons of beach on my driveway. Someone once said to me, “You know, you’ve got an awful lot of sand.” I don’t think that this is what they had in mind and frankly I don’t know what idiom indicates. My son Mitch is bringing the extreme mowing machine (that’s another story) and a trailer and he will provide help for weary backs by hauling sand around to the back yard tomorrow.
Very shortly now, my friend John will arrive with the Earth Eating machine and we will delve into the earths damp, dark, depths; digging declining ditches (trenches actually but it didn’t begin with a ‘d’). The fun part will be digging the 300′ of trenches … the work will be carrying the dirt away. I’m so grateful for John and Mitch and Ryan and Evan who have promised help … Linda is even more grateful :-).
I’m also thankful to the Lord that He has guided me with the shovel in a couple of different instances. I’ve discovered two things by digging in certain spots. One has been helpful and saved me some money … the other has been crucial and exposed a serious problem that may easily have been un-discovered otherwise. One of the existing drainage lines (downspout) that we intended to use was discovered to have been damaged somehow to the point that is had a large opening in it and was dumping water into the ground right on the corner of the house where we have the problem with the water during torrential rains. We are utilizing that line, joining to it as part of the new project. Had I not discovered it, we’d have done all this work and not only not solved anything but we would have made it worse. It was no accident that I discovered it … Thank You, Lord!
Well … some fuel for the body to burn before we get started would probably be a good idea right now.
