Assault with a Child Car Seat
January 13, 2020
One of the most interesting things, for me, in being a LYFT driver is the discovery of how many young baby mommys there are who eschew the use of infant car seats for their little ones when they bring them along for the ride. LYFT policy is to require the use of such safety devices and when I inform such women of the policy and explain that I cannot transport their infant/toddler without a car seat there are varied reactions.
Sadly, more often than not, they complain loudly with a string of profanity and crude language and slam the car door. They cite the inconvenience of hauling a car seat around, poverty, ignorance of the rules and other excuses.
Today, however was a first. Mommy got angry and swore at me as she stomped to the car next to mine in the parking lot, and pulled the car seat from it (apparently she had a dead battery and her car would not start). As she wrestled to install it in the back seat, while continuing the stream of profanity, she actually said she had half a mind to hit me in the head with it … and THEN what would I do?. I agreed that perhaps she did really have half a mind and informed her that I would promptly call the police if she followed through on her threat.
Things calmed down after that and I dropped her off at her destination. An hour and a half later she popped up on my app, looking for a ride home. I informed Linda of the previous interaction and let her know that if she didn’t hear from me soon … I may have been attacked.
Mommy was calm and subdued, this time, however. Baby fell asleep in the seat and she was …….. I’m serious here …… listening to a Christian podcast with the theme of the role of prayer in anger management.
Go figger!
